Community Board Member Orientation

"Hope lies in dreams, in imagination and in the courage of those who dare to make dreams into reality." – Jonas Salk

Welcome to a cadre of informed, engaged, and inspired board members who have the confidence to lead with vision while building on the strength of the past! Through the Jewish Leadership Academy’s Board Member Orientation, you will learn how to be a better steward of a community synagogue or nonprofit organization.

This single-evening session serves as a guide to the ins and outs of being a board member and provides the building blocks you’ll need to succeed and propel our community organizations forward. Led by a nationally recognized expert, the orientation will guide and encourage you to think about your role as a board member and as a member of our Greater Hartford community.

Participants will:

  • Learn about board roles & responsibilities
  • Discover how to contribute to organizational success
  • Understand the role of Jewish values in board governance
  • Build your network
  • Grow as a leader
  • Bring new ideas back to your institution

The Board Member Orientation is designed to benefit anyone, regardless of level of experience, who serves on the board of a synagogue or other Jewish nonprofit.
